Music Department
All Truman students — including incoming students — are eligible to audition for Music Service Scholarships, which are awarded based on ability demonstrated in your music audition. To sign up for an audition, please submit the online Audition Request FormÌý´Ç°ù contact the professor in your area of interest. In the case of equal ability between two candidates, preferences will be given to music majors.
To be eligible for an Endowed Music Scholarship, you must be currently enrolled at Truman and have declared music as your major.
Available to both majors and non-majors, band scholarships ensure a pool of the finest wind and percussion performers for the Wind Symphony. There are approximately 25 of these scholarships available each year, from $500 to $1500. Scholarships are renewable each year as long as you are enrolled in Wind Symphony.
Qualified string players, regardless of major or minor status, can audition to receive an Orchestra Scholarship of up to $1,000 per school year. Members of the President’s String Quartet receive an $1,800 stipend in addition to their Orchestra Scholarship. The Karl Webb Endowed Scholarship is a $1,000 one-year scholarship awarded to an incoming string music major. If you are a string music major with a scholarship, you must enroll for the University Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, and a private lesson. String students with scholarships who are not music majors would be required to enroll for the University Orchestra with optional participation in the Chamber Orchestra and applied lessons.
Piano scholarships range from partial scholarships to full tuition, room, and board. Our Annual Piano Festival in February features the competition which determines the À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ “full-package” scholarship, as well as other scholarships in piano. All high school seniors are encouraged to compete for these awards. Arrange for an audition as soon as possible.
The vocal area has a number of scholarships that are available for students pursuing vocal majors and for talented vocalists in areas of need. Scholarships are renewable based on continued participation in vocal ensembles.
