Internships provide you with an opportunity to apply what you learn in the classroom to the real world of politics and government, develop job skills, and to establish professional networks for career placement and advancement. Several types of internships are available through the Political Science and International Relations Department.

Note: Students doing internships for Truman credit are assessed the regular tuition charges per credit hour.

• Missouri Government Internship
  You can spend the spring semester of the academic year in Jefferson City working with a state representative, a state senator, in the Governor’s Office, or in some other top-level of state government. A stipend to defray your living expenses, you can earn 15 credit hours for this experience. Political science and international relations majors may apply all 15 hours to their required support, or three hours can be applied as an elective in the major and 12 hours applied toward required support and free electives.
• The Washington Center provides you with a supervised experience working in federal agencies, art centers, and political and social organizations and in other important centers in the nation’s capitol.
• A large number of other internships are possible through the Political Science and International Relations Department. Internships can be arranged with elected officials in Washington, D.C., Jefferson City, or in your hometown. Many students intern with policy organizations, lawyers, or in service activities with environmental or other service agencies inside and outside of government.
