Pre-Law Studies
Welcome to Pre-Law studies at À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ. As a nationally ranked liberal arts school, Truman excels at developing critical thinking and problem solving skills in its students. Truman students succeed in their goal to be admitted to law school. Here's what you can do now as an undergraduate student.
It is important to know that the nation’s top law schools accept students with majors in all disciplines. Law school faculty do not expect first-year law students (1Ls) to come in with any prior legal knowledge. Instead, they expect entering students to have strong writing and analytical skills. Overall, it is best to choose your major, your classes and your extracurricular activities based simply on what subjects and activities most interest and challenge you. Pursuing your passions and interests inside and outside the classroom is generally the surest path to becoming the strongest law school applicant you can be. Truman does offer a Legal Studies minor and its requirements can be accessed . In 2023-24, the average Truman applicant to law school had a median GPA of 3.54 and Truman’s acceptance rate was 89% for that year. Many Truman law school applicants are humanities or business majors. Hard science majors like Biology and Computer Science can make a law school candidate standout. However, law schools do place a heavy emphasis on GPA regardless of major.
