Student Spotlight: Erica

Erica

After a long college search process, 蓝莓视频 made the top ranks for Erica Lindsay鈥檚 undergraduate options. With its high academic standards, low cost for out-of-state students, and vibrant atmosphere, the liberal arts institution seemed like a no-brainer.

Only problem? The 15-hour commute.

Coming from Maryland, Lindsay was a little nervous moving halfway across the country for college. She chose Truman for its reputation and cost but wasn鈥檛 sure what to expect when it came to the experience. Stepping on campus her freshman year, however, she was soon greeted by peers, teammates, advisors, and professors.

鈥淚 realized pretty quickly that I had nothing to worry about,鈥 Lindsay said. 鈥淓veryone here is so welcoming. Even though I was very far from family and friends, I felt at home.鈥

After changing her major from business and psychology to communication, she found interest in applying classroom concepts and made it her goal to get more involved.

Becoming a Student Advisor her sophomore year added both challenge and excitement to her busy schedule. While sometimes hectic, she found fulfillment in serving the communities around her while also balancing cross country, academics, and extracurriculars.

Truman鈥檚 culture of rigor and support motivated Lindsay to move past her comfort zone and pursue opportunities within The Index, Advertising and Public Relations Organization, Joseph Baldwin Academy, and even study abroad.

From days full of captivating classes, races, and events, to late-night study sessions, duty rounds, and production nights, Lindsay said she is always being pushed to her fullest potential. With each experience she became more comfortable with her place on Truman鈥檚 campus, often forgetting how far she had to come to get here.

鈥淚鈥檝e made so many great connections and lifelong memories,鈥 Lindsay said. 鈥淭he school really attracts fantastic, passionate people who you want to meet and get to know. I might have been hesitant initially, but I couldn鈥檛 imagine going anywhere else for my college journey.鈥

Lindsay anticipates applying what she has learned here to professional realms and beyond. While at a larger school these possibilities can be more competitive, she described, Truman makes them attainable for all who are willing to put forth the effort.

鈥淭ruman gave me so many chances to take risks and follow my interests,鈥 Lindsay said. 鈥淚 don鈥檛 know where I鈥檇 be personally or academically without my education here.鈥
