In compliance with the 2024 amendments to the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act, this page brings together campus policies, reporting systems, and prevention strategies in place at Truman to reduce hazing behaviors.
Truman’s policies forbidding hazing and describing how allegations of hazing by students and student organizations will be investigated can be found within the Student Conduct Code (Section 8.050.16) at . Student Organizations additionally agree to abide by campus anti-hazing policies through their annual with Union and Involvement Services. Certain acts of hazing could constitute discriminatory behavior and could fall under the auspices of Truman’s . In addition to the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act, Truman also complies with .
At , the Conduct Referral Form may be used to make reports to the Office of Citizenship and Conduct concerning student and student organization behavior regarding hazing. Citizenship and Conduct can assist in making these reports.

The 2024 amendment to the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act requires all colleges and universities to detail certain information when student organizations are found responsible for having violated campus hazing policies. The following listing is updated at least twice per year. Violations are maintained on this site for five years. This report was last updated 09/23/2025.
General Description of the Incident: New members were required to decorate a brick and then carry it with them while caroling the sororities. During the singing, one student would be pulled out to sing a solo, creating an embarrassing situation for that singer. Through the investigation it was learned that new members were required to clean up after parties concluded, a task that very few older members participated in.
Did the incident involve the abuse or illegal use of alcohol or drugs? No
Findings: The organization was found responsible for violating sections 16 (abusive affiliation or hazing), 16.4 (hazing by subservience), and 13 (complicity) of the Student Conduct Code.
Sanctions: The organization had an existing period of probation that has now been extended through June 30, 2027. The organization must bring in a national presenter to train the chapter on hazing prevention and response. The chapter must also work with their national headquarters throughout the probation to pre-plan all events at the beginning of each semester and work with nationals to ensure events are compliant with all aspects of the Student Conduct Code. All events must be planned using a planning tool developed with the chapter from a previous conduct matter.

General Description of the Incident: New members were directed to participate in a scavenger hunt. The scavenger hunt list included actions calling for new members to violate local public indecency laws and to participate in sexualized dancing at fraternity houses with fellow Delta Zeta members.
Findings: The organization was found responsible for violating sections 16 (abusive affiliation or hazing), 16.3 (requiring violation of criminal laws as hazing), and 22.3 (failure by an organization to follow policies) of the Student Conduct Code.
Sanctions: The organization has been placed on university probation through June 30, 2026. The organization must develop a presentation for their full membership and an advisor that reviews this incident, examines areas where members and chapter leadership could have worked to prevent or stop the incident, and discusses how policies and practices will be implemented to change the culture within the organization to prevent hazing in the future.
