In partnership with Barnes and Noble College, First Day Complete ensures that you have all your required course materials on or before the first day of class. This program is for fall and spring semesters only. Summer and Winter Interim course materials are purchased individually.
step one
Upon registering for classes, you will automatically be enrolled in First Day Complete. This is to make your preparation for the semester easy, simple, and stress free.
step two
The window to verify or opt out of the program opens 30 days before the first day of classes. You will confirm your materials and select your fulfillment preferences (delivery vs. Pick-up). Make sure to review all emails before deciding to opt out.
step three
An email notification will be sent when your order is ready for pick up at the University Bookstore or when it ships. Your digital materials will be delivered for your course(s) within Brightspace. We want you to feel prepared and confident at the start of your semester.
Calculating the Cost
This flat fee program can save students up to 50% each semester! However, it is important to do your research every semester! There may be situation where the First Day Complete charge exceeds the retail amount for your books or does not benefit you in a given semester. For example, maybe one or more of your courses is utilizing no-cost materials or no materials at all. In this case, it might be a good idea to opt out for that semester.
We encourage you to visit the University Bookstore Website to search for and review the costs of your required materials as compared to the First Day Complete cost before making your opt-out decision.
Through this innovative program, physical books are conveniently packaged and provided to students on a rental basis, and access to digital material is directly within Brightspace, and is priced at $23 per credit hour. At the end of the term, students will receive email reminders to their Truman email account to return rented physical course materials to the University Bookstore.
Students can choose to opt out of the program each semester. For more information on Opt Out, see the Opt Out section.
To determine what First Day Complete will cost you this semester, please see the credit hour reference above.
Please remember that you are charged per credit hour each semester. The reference chart above will help you determine what First Day Complete will cost you for a given semester.
This option will be available 30 days prior to the beginning of each major semester (fall and spring) through the end of the free Add/Drop period. The date of the free Add/Drop period can be found on the Schedule of Classes and Fees.
We encourage you to visit the University Bookstore Website to search for and review the costs of your required materials as compared to the First Day Complete cost before making your opt-out decision. Remember to do your research every semester!
Students should make every effort to communicate questions or concerns with the University Bookstore team and select the “Opt-out” option prior to the opt-out deadline.
Because students will receive multiple communications regarding First Day Complete, exemptions for missing the deadline are rare. However, students who did not opt-out of the program by the communicated deadline due to an extenuating circumstance should communicate with the University Bookstore team first. The student may be asked to fill out the First Day Complete Administrative Review request form to be considered for an exemption. Exemptions are granted on a semester basis only.
To access your course materials, log into your LMS using your school credentials. Once you are in the LMS, select your course then look for the “Course Materials” link.
There are several different types of materials that you might see within your courses such as an eBook, publisher courseware, or a bundle of both an eBook and courseware. No matter which type of course material your instructor has chosen for your course, you can access the material by clicking on the green button.
eBook
If your instructor has chosen an eBook, you will see the “Read Now” button. Clicking on this button will launch the BNC eBook reader and take you directly to your eBook. There are several tools and features you can use with your eBook such as highlighting and adding notes.
Publisher Courseware
Publisher courseware may be delivered in one of three different methods:
If your course includes publisher courseware, and the material is embedded directly into your course through deep-linking or learning modules, you will only see the cover image of the materials for this course. The notes section of this type of course will inform you where to go to locate your publisher courseware.
If your course includes publisher courseware, you will see the “Launch Courseware” button. Clicking on this button will take you directly to your courseware on the publisher’s website where you will be automatically logged into the courseware and can begin using your material immediately.
For certain publishers, you will access your publisher courseware by clicking on the “Reveal Access Code”button.
